Standard Chartered adds to capital markets team

Tee Choon Hong joins the bank as regional head of capital markets for Northeast Asia.

Standard Chartered Bank has appointed Tee Choon Hong as managing director and regional head of capital markets for Northeast Asia. He is based in Hong Kong and will report to Christian Wait, global head of capital markets.

The bank says Tee has been tasked to encourage and facilitate cross fertilisation among products within capital markets. He will also pursue additional business opportunities from existing clients in areas such as pre- and post-issuance hedging involving rates, FX, commodities, credit and equities.

"Standard Chartered aims to expand and deepen the coverage and products in the newer markets across Asia, Africa and the Middle East to better meet the growing client demands. Tee comes with vast experience in debt capital markets and is well-placed to help us achieve our goals and propel the bank forward in the Northeast Asian markets," said Wait in a press release.

Tee brings to Standard Chartered 20 years of experience in capital markets. He spent 10 years with Deutsche Bank in Hong Kong where he worked in debt capital markets and corporate sales for Asia ex-Japan. While there, he and his team also executed major deals, which included benchmark US dollar and/or euro transactions for China, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan and the Philippines, and regional quasi-sovereigns and corporates such as China Export-Import Bank, Hutchison, Kepco and Telekom Malaysia.

Prior to this, Tee held roles at Merrill Lynch in Hong Kong, Bankers Trust International in London and Nikko Securities in Tokyo and London.
