CIBC continues to strengthen its capital markets capabilities in Asia, bringing on board Kenny Chan and Soo Chin Tan.
Chan has joined CIBC as a director with the financial solutions group (FSG). He will have a focus on foreign exchange sales and will report to Joe Cortese, who is executive director for FSG, said a memo announcing the hire, which was signed by Andre LaJeunesse, who heads capital market trading for CIBC for Asia. Chan, who was last at Standard Chartered, brings to his new role nine years of financial markets experience, spent mostly in FX sales and trading, and structured products.
Soo Chin Tan joined CIBC as an executive director in FX trading. She has more than 15 years of trading experience, most recently at German bank West LB where she worked in derivatives and fixed income trading. At CIBC Tan will focus on growth market currencies in Asia, reporting jointly to LaJeunesse and Duncan Rule, who is co-head of fixed income and currencies.
Both Chan and Tan are based in Hong Kong. Last year Richard Nesbitt, who heads CIBC’s corporate and investment bank, told FinanceAsia in an interview that CIBC then had 52 full-time staff in Asia. That number seems set to grow quickly as CIBC continues to build its trading capabilities — the hire of Chan and Tan follows the Canadian bank bringing on board Andy Yeoh and Woo Sok Lee earlier this year.
