HSBC has made two senior appointments in its Asia-Pacific global payments and cash management team.
Responsible for driving business strategy in Korea is Sunil Veetil who has been appointed Korea head of global payments and cash management. Meanwhile, Herani Hermawan, who joined HSBC in 2004, has been promoted to head of global payments and cash management in Indonesia.
“We are fully committed to investing in the development of our people and these senior executive appointments reflect that commitment," said John Laurens, HSBC’s Asia-Pacific head of global payments and cash management, in a statement. “They also mark another key milestone in the execution of our aggressive growth strategy across the Asia-Pacific region.”
Veetil was most recently head of global payments and cash management in Indonesia, and previously served as regional manager of product development and deputy head of transaction banking for HSBC in the Middle East. He reports to Eunyoung Jung who is the Korea head of global banking for HSBC. Veetil replaced Abhay Chauhan who has relocated to Hong Kong to join HSBC’s global trade and supply team.
"We have seen a radical shift in Korea over the years, with Korean chaebols increasingly abandoning traditional banking practices and turning their focus to more strategic global cash management solutions,” Laurens explained. “In his new role, [Veetil] assumes responsibility for a business that has grown considerably over recent years.”
Hermawan was previously responsible for growth and development of HSBC's Indonesia sales team, and before that worked in the sales department at both Citi and Deutsche Bank. She reports to Mark Emmerson who is HSBC’s Indonesia head of corporate banking.
Commenting on Hermawan’s promotion, Laurens said that she has the “necessary skill and expertise required to lead the development and growth” of HSBC’s business in Indonesia.
Both Veetil and Hermawan report functionally to Laurens.
