HSBC has created a new senior position within its global payments and cash management team for Asia-Pacific. Shayan Hazir has been appointed the new head of business banking for Asia-Pacific, effective immediately. Hazir’s appointment follows the bank’s announcement of a new head of trade and supply chain in Malaysia last week and, according to the bank, shows their commitment to supporting small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) in Asia.
“Small and medium-size enterprises are increasingly engaging in cross-border business and seeking new opportunities in markets around the world,” said John Laurens, HSBC’s Asia-Pacific head of global payments and cash management, in a statement. “According to the latest publication of HSBC’s Small Business Confidence Monitor, around half of these businesses in Hong Kong will consider trading renminbi within the year and 40% globally plan on ‘going international’ in the next two years.”
“These results demonstrate the need for banks to develop cash management solutions that cater to the cross-border needs for small and medium business. At HSBC we continue to invest extensively in our global payments and cash management franchise to ensure that our clients are able to realise their potential as they develop business internationally,” said Laurens in the same statement.
Hazir was previously global project manager within HSBC’s global commercial banking team and was responsible for aligning business banking propositions with the bank’s product development strategy. In his new role he will be responsible for aligning global payments and cash management strategies with the bank’s business banking franchise in order to provide integrated cash management solutions to SMEs across Asia-Pacific.
His other previous roles at HSBC include head of business banking and head of sales for global payments and cash management in Pakistan.
This new appointment will see Hazir oversee all aspects of HSBC’s global payments and cash management business for SMEs including business development, client management and product development in Asia.
