Barclays Capital has appointed Rafael Carrillo as head of its financial institutions group (FIG) for Southeast Asia.

Carrillo, who joined BarCap yesterday as a managing director, will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with the firm’s clients in Southeast Asia. He will work with country coverage bankers, product bankers and BarCap’s global FIG bankers. He will be based in Singapore and will report to Helge Weiner-Trapness, who heads Asia-Pacific FIG at BarCap, based out of Hong Kong, and Sandeep Pahwa, head of investment banking for Southeast Asia, who is based in Singapore.

"Bringing on board a highly experienced banker of [Carrillo’s] calibre underlines our commitment to providing the firm’s full-service product offering to our clients,” said Weiner-Trapness in a written statement.

Until around a month ago, Carrillo was at Citi, where he spent more than 15 years, most recently as head of Southeast Asia FIG, investment banking.

Citi appointed David Khoo in April as a managing director for Asia-Pacific FIG, based in Singapore. Khoo’s remit is Citi’s FIG clients in Asean. He joined Citi after more than eight years with ABN Amro and then Royal Bank of Scotland, where he was head of Southeast Asia FIG when he left.
