Barclays names two new hires

The bank announces hires in Singapore to expand its global retail and commercial banking business.
Barclays has started the new year by announcing two new hires in its global retail and commercial banking (GRCB) division in the region.

In Singapore, the bank has hired Mario Choo as managing director of investment products for GRCB. In his new role, Choo will be responsible for developing consumer product propositions with a primary focus on markets outside of Barclays home base of Great Britain.

Choo crosses to Barclays from ABN AMRO in Singapore. For ABN, he was responsible for investment products offered to private banking clients across the region. Before working at ABN, Choo was with Citibank in a variety of roles.

Also joining the firm in Singapore is Alvin Lee. Within its GRCB division, Lee will answer to the title of managing director of dual currency deposits and FX products. In the role, Lee will be responsible for developing and delivering these products globally.

Lee moves to Barclays from Citibank in Singapore where he was the head of retail FX trading FX trading and sales across the consumer bank in Asia. Within this role, he also played a pivotal role in introducing dual currency deposits as a consumer banking product.

Both new hires have began working for Barclays and will report to Vinit Chandra, global product director for treasury and investment products for GRCB.
