Standard Chartered veteran Gloria Chow has been anointed the bank's new head of client relationships, Hong Kong, wholesale banking, following on from a slew of recent appointments to the business line.
From Hong Kong, she will oversee the entire corporate and institutional client relationships business. Also under the new post, Chow will provide strategic direction and spearhead Standard Chartered's business development with the various customer segments in local corporates, multinationals and financial institutions in Hong Kong.
In somewhat of a rarity in the banking world, Chow started her career with Standard Chartered as a graduate trainee, before moving onto various senior client relationship roles. Most recently, Chow was its head of local corporates and was responsible for driving Standard Chartered's local corporates client relationship business development in the Hong Kong and Pearl River Delta region.
In the new role Chow reports to Andrew Bester, Standard Chartered's head of client relationships, Greater China and Japan.
Chow's appointment comes as the bank is restructuring its regional wholesale banking activities. Recently, Karen Fawcett moved to the role of group head of transaction banking, while Chow's former boss, Alex Thursby took on the post of group head of client relationships.
