Citi appoints Salman Ali head of Indonesia research

Citi has expanded its Indonesia research team with the appointment of Salman Ali as head of research for the country and Kim Kwie Sjamsuddin as a senior analyst covering the mining sector. Ali was previously Citi's head of research for Pakistan, while Sjamsuddin joins from BNP Paribas Indonesia.

Ali will be responsible for Citi's overall equity strategy for Indonesia, leading a team of four analysts and associates, and will also personally cover the Indonesian banking sector. He will report to Brent Robinson, Citi's head of investment research and analysis for Asia-Pacific.

Ali joined Citi in October 2007 from Habib Bank in Pakistan where he covered economics and major sectors for the bank's management and board of directors to help them develop the bank's strategy. Before that he covered strategy and the telecom and energy sectors at Indosuez WI Carr Pakistan. He holds an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration in Karachi.

Sjamsuddin has been with BNP Paribas for the past four years, covering Indonesia's coal, property and materials sectors. Previously he has also worked with Danareksa Sekuritas and ABN AMRO, covering the retail and materials sectors. He has an accounting and finance degree from San Francisco State University.

Both Ali and Sjamsuddin are also CFA charter holders.
