Michael Chung has joined Citigroup investment research (CIR) in Seoul, taking on the role of Korean head of research. He moves to the firm from rival US bank Morgan Stanley where he had covered the Korean financials sector since 2001.
In his new position, Chun assumes responsibility for managing CIR's research product and strategy, taking over the post from Leslie Chow who will relocate to Hong Kong next month to cover the Asian chemicals sector. Prior to his career at Morgan Stanley, Chung spent three years as a financials analyst at Samsung Securities and one year covering the non-bank financials sector at Dongbang Peregrine.
Aside from these roles, Chung has also toned his skills as an actuarial analyst in San Francisco. Chung's hire marks the third country head of research taken on by the bank in recent months. Andrew Stotz was appointed as head of research in Thailand and Anil Daswani in Hong Kong.
In addition, Citigroup has also announced that Sean Kim has joined the firm as a downstream technology analyst in Korea. Kim was previously in investor relations with Samsung Electronics as a TFT-LCD specialist for the last two years. Before working for Samsung Electronics, Kim worked for CISCO Systems for three years and Zaffire for one year as a software engineer.
