The equity and debt capital markets see out the first quarter in lacklustre fashion.
Equity Capital Markets

The last week of the quarter saw a total of $223 million raised from 10 issues, bringing year-to-date volume to $22.0 billion - the lowest first quarter result since 1Q 2005 ($16.8 billion) and down 10% from 1Q 2007 ($24.4 billion). Citi continues to top the league table rankings with $3.0 billion, followed by Deutsche Bank and JPMorgan.

Li NingÆs $76 million bought deal was the largest issue of the week and led by UBS. The Swiss investment house moved up a notch to sit in fourth place in the rankings with $1.5 billion.


Debt Capital Markets

The debt capital markets capped off the quarter with zero trades this week. Year-to-date volume stands at $4.9 billion from 16 trades û the lowest first quarter result since 2002 ($3.4 billion). HSBC heads the league table rankings on $1.3 billion, trailed by Barclays Capital with $764 million and Lehman Brothers on $665 million.
