Deutsche Bank has made five hires in its cash equity sales departments across Hong Kong, Mumbai and Singapore, attracting talent from other banks.
Deutsche has poached Niccolo Manno from UBS as director of equity capital markets (ECM) block sales. Manno, who will be based in Hong Kong, will be part of the institutional client group, responsible for building Deutsche's block trades business and will work closely with the ECM team. At UBS Manno was part of the ECM syndication group, responsible for executing deals in Hong Kong, Southeast Asia and India, as well as Asian deals into Europe and the US. Manno will report to Tom Welch who heads fundamental equity sales for Deutsche for Asia ex-Japan.
Also in Hong Kong, Deutsche has appointed Maryann Tseng director in the China fundamental equity sales team. She will be responsible for selling Hong Kong and China equity product to Deutsche's institutional clients and will report to Jeffrey Hil who heads China and Hong Kong fundamental equity sales. Tseng was earlier in institutional equity sales at Bank of China International Securities.
The third Hong Kong-based hire also joins as a director, reporting to Hil. Isabella Kwok joins Deutsche's Hong Kong and China fundamental equity sales team from Merrill Lynch.
Sonia Gandhi joins in India as a director in the Indian fundamental equity sales team and will be responsible for selling Indian equity product to institutional clients. Gandhi was earlier in a similar role at BNP Paribas. She reports to Welch and locally to Sunil Agarwal who heads the institutional client group for India and Pratik Gupta who heads global markets equities for India.
Manno, Tseng, Kwok and Gandhi have already started at Deutsche.
The fifth hire, Carolyn Tan, will start in December. Tan joins the Singapore fundamental equity sales team and will sell Asian equities to institutional investors based in Singapore. Tan will report to Nilesh Navlakha who heads equity sales for Singapore. She was earlier at Macquarie.
Deutsche recently poached Sumeet Puri from Morgan Stanley in India to head ECM syndicate for Asia, based in Hong Kong. However, Puri is replacing someone who is being transferred, said sources, while the additions to cash equity sales are new positions.
