DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary has appointed Minh Dang and Kevin Murphy to the partnership, in a move described by the law firm as further driving the development of its corporate practice across Asia.
Dang ascends to the partnership in its Hong Kong offices after 20 years of legal experience. Over his career he has advised on a variety of international transactions including acquisitions, joint ventures, public and private financings and restructurings.
He also regularly advises multinationals investing in Asia and Asian corporations investing internationally, working on an array of acquisitions in the US and Europe as well as transactions in Malaysia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam and Hong Kong. In particular, Dang has also developed significant experience in Vietnamese financings.
New partner Murphy specializes in investments and acquisitions in Southeast Asia, project and equipment financings, and international and US financings (including debt restructuring). Over his career, Murphy has advised private companies, governments, and state-owned enterprises across the region on their activities in Asia and abroad as well as advising clients from Europe and North America on their activities in Asia.
Murphy has also honed his expertise with several investment funds on structuring and executing their initial transactions in Asia and on successfully exiting them from such investments. His transactional experience also extends to Africa, Europe and North America and across most Asian markets.
Combined, Dang and Murphy have more than 35 years of international law firm experience and both have also practiced in the US before relocating to Asia more than a decade ago.
Their ascension to DLA Piper partnership comes after the firm recently announced a slew of executive appointments include insolvency and debt expert Lampros Vassiliou, a consultant for the Asian Development Bank and the OECD. Additionally, Gigi Cheah and Justin Davidson, Information Technology and Intellectual Property experts were appointed to head the Technology Media and Communications team in Asia.
Back in March, the firm's office in Bangkok recruited a six-lawyer team headed by partners Chanvitaya Suvarnapunya and Chatchai Inthasuwan, while in the same month it hired John Yeap, a former senior manager and corporate counsel from China Light & Power to head its fast growing projects group
