Who says bankers are apolitical? A recent meeting of the Financial Executives Association of the Philippines (Finex) shows that some bankers care very deeply about politics. At a meeting on Wednesday a motion was proposed and successfully carried calling for the early ending of the day's meeting.
The reason why was because the Finex secretariat wanted to take to the streets of Makati to join in the demonstration against President Estrada. Indeed so popular was this demonstration among financial types that nearly all activity in the city's financial and banking heartland drew to a halt. But with the economy performing as badly as it is, and stock prices as low as they are, it is no wonder that the usually urbane and unflappable Filipino financiers have been driven to such extremes of passion.
