Mark White, previously CEO of JPMorgan Fleming Asset Management (UK), has joined Hong Kong-based Asian fund of hedge fund specialist KGR Capital. In his most recent role at JF, White was responsible for international institutional business in Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia and Japan. Previously he also held the position of CEO for Jardine Fleming Investment Management in Hong Kong.
White, who will shortly be appointed to the board of KGR capital, will be based in the firm's London office. He will take an active role in the both the selection of underlying hedge fund managers as well as in the marketing of KGR's fund to institutional and professional investors.
"Mark has been in the institutional investment industry for 28 years, 13 of which he has spent in Asia," says John Knox, Hong Kong-based director of KGR Capital. "He has a profound depth of knowledge of the Asian hedge fund universe and has at some point employed several of the people who today are running Asia's hedge funds."
"His expertise in the institutional fund management sector... will enhance our existing team significantly," adds London-based KGR director Christopher Rampton.
White can expect to feel right at home with KGR, which was founded by a team of JF veterans. Knox, Rampton and Nick George, KGR's three founding partners, all previously held senior positions at Jardine Fleming (later JPMorgan). The trio established KGR in 2002 and launched their Asian fund of hedge funds in August 2003. The fund has returned an annualized 10.9% at a volatility of 4.35%. Assets currently stand at $75 million.
With White on board and with KGR hitting its two-year track record mark this summer, Knox expects the fund to receive increasing institutional investor interest in the coming months.
