Victor Ho has shifted to the Shanghai offices of Allen & Overy, where he will work as a partner alongside managing partner Simon Black.
Ho's experience in the PRC legal world has included cross-border M&A, joint ventures, direct investments, private equity, venture capital and general corporate and commercial advisory across a variety of industries. Most recently, he has been involved in investments in the financial services industry and M&A transactions involving state-owned enterprises.
During his eight-year stretch with White & Case, Ho was responsible for opening and heading its Shanghai office in 2000. Before this, he worked in the Shanghai and Hong Kong offices of Baker & McKenzie for over five years.
"The PRC's accession to the WTO has opened up a host of opportunities for foreign companies wishing to do business in China," says Brian Harrison, Allen & Overy's head of Asian practice. "Market deregulation and the increase in cross-border financing are also offering more opportunities for Chinese enterprises wishing to access the international capital markets. This appointment is a powerful statement of Allen & Overy's commitment to establish a successful long term practice and on the ground resources in this strategically important market."
Ho's arrival boosts the number of China Group members in A&O's Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong offices to over 70, with more to come.
"Victor's arrival is an important step in our expansion plan in the PRC and fully expect to devote more resources in China in the coming months," Black concludes.
