HSBC has made two additional senior appointments in its global payments and cash management team in Asia-Pacific. Following the appointment of Sunil Veetil and Herani Hermawan as heads of the business in Korea and Indonesia, respectively, last week, HSBC has now named business heads in China and Thailand as part of its ongoing cash management growth strategy across Asia-Pacific.
Kee Joo Wong was appointed China head of global payments and cash management and will report to regional head John Laurens. Wong was previously head of global payments and cash management in Thailand, a position he held for three years. Wong has more than 15 years of experience in various senior positions globally including Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand in Asia-Pacific. A past tenure as head of product management in China has provided him with a deep understanding of the market and client needs globally and regionally in Asia-Pacific.
“China is a key focus of our emerging markets strategy and the growth engine of the global economy. This has been further emphasised by the increased levels of business growth our clients have been experiencing,” said Laurens, in a statement. “I’m delighted to see Kee Joo return to China. He is an experienced transaction banker who will serve our clients well and I’m confident that he’ll take our cash management franchise to new levels as he leads the execution of our accelerated growth investment in China.”
Replacing Wong and also reporting to Laurens will be Nigel Raymont who assumes the role of Thailand head of global payments and cash management. Raymont relocates from Hong Kong where he was senior vice-president of global strategy, global payments and cash management. He has more than 12 years of experience in the transaction banking business with HSBC in various roles across Europe and Asia-Pacific and was previously responsible for promoting domestic, regional and global multi-currency cash management solutions to multinational and institutional clients in Asia-Pacific as a sales team leader.
“Nigel is a veteran of our global payments and cash management business. His appointment to head our business in Thailand therefore evidences our commitment to this important market and continued growth aspirations,” said Laurens. “Nigel’s depth of experience and client advisory expertise will enable us to strengthen HSBC’s position as a leading provider of cash management solutions in Thailand.”
