HSBC has promoted Noel Quinn to head of commercial banking for Asia-Pacific, according to a release yesterday.
Quinn is currently head of commercial banking for HSBC in the United Kingdom. He was promoted to the level of group general manager in June last year. Quinn is a veteran HSBC banker who joined the UK-headquartered bank 23 years ago. Since then, he has held a number of different roles including head of commercial finance for Europe, group director for strategy and development for HSBC’s North America insurance services, and head of planning for commercial banking in the UK.
The new assignment is another case of HSBC strengthening its senior bench in the region as Quinn will relocate to Hong Kong as of April 1 to take up his new responsibilities. Last month, Rajeev Sahney transferred to Hong Kong from London to head HSBC's corporate sector group for Asia-Pacific.
Peter Wong, who is chief executive officer for Asia-Pacific, said in a written statement that Quinn’s appointment will strengthen HSBC’s international connectivity advantage and successful commercial banking business in Asia.
