HSBC's Consing gets expanded role

Joel Consing becomes head of DFG (Debt Financing Group) for South East Asia.

One of HSBC's most well-liked and successful originators is to become the bank's new head of South East Asian DFG. Joel Consing, currently head of Philippines investment banking and DCM, is to re-locate from Manila to Singapore.

Consing has previously worked in the Lion City when he was at Bankers Trust alongside the Philippines' current Finance Secretary Jose Camacho. He returned home to the Philippines with the bank in 1997 and joined HSBC shortly after.

He has since helped build up an enviable business in the Philippines and is the only banker that can claim to have priced a dollar bond and peso bond for the Republic on consecutive days.

It is hoped he can take up his new post in September after finding a replacement in Manila, although he will continue to oversee the Philippines' business from Singapore. His elevation follows a recent re-shuffle at HSBC, which has seen Stephen Williams take over as the head of DFG for Asia including Japan and Australia.

In his new role, Williams is now responsible for all the loan and bond teams as well Greater China, which used to be run by Helen Wong, who has now moved into corporate finance.
