ING Financial Markets has added volume to its equity derivatives trading team by appointing two members to its Hong Kong office. Jean-Guy Renard and Martin Wevers take on newly created roles and will join the squad under the eye of Trinh Du, head of equity derivatives products in Asia.
Renard returns to Hong Kong as a vice president, focusing on proprietary and exotic options trading. ING gains Renard's services from Credit Lyonnais London where he was a member of the convertible bonds proprietary trading team.
Before his London posting, Credit Lyonnais also employed Renard as an equity derivatives trader in Hong Kong. He has also worked for the Societe Generale equity derivatives team in its Paris office.
Moving from ING Bank headquarters on 6 May, Wevers comes to Hong Kong as a manager and a Japan-focused options trader. In the Netherlands, Wevers was a member of the equity derivatives team for three years.
According to ING, the new appointments follows a shift in direction to towards high value-added products, with an increased focus on the Dutch bank's structured finance, mergers and acquisition, debt capital markets and syndicated loans capabilities. The newly created positions are described by the bank as a response to increasing proprietary trading opportunities, and demand for structured products and exotic options from its clients.
Over the next few months, ING expects to increase its equity derivative operations in Taiwan by adding further resources to meet demands for structured productions and exotic options.
