JP Morgan names new Hong Kong CEO

JP Morgan has appointed Kam Shing Kwang to lead Hong Kong, effective October 1, as Harshika Patel completes her term; Patel will continue as Apac CEO of JP Morgan Private Bank.

Global banking giant JP Morgan has appointed Kam Shing Kwang as CEO for Hong Kong, effective October 1, 2024, as Harshika Patel completes her term after three years, according to internal company memo seen by FinanceAsia.

Kwang, who is currently JP Morgan’s North Asia chairman, will oversee local governance, coordination, and controls, while continuing to foster employee and community engagement within our Hong Kong franchise. She will also continue her North Asia chairwoman role.

Upon the transition, Patel will continue in her other role as chief executive of JP Morgan Private Bank, Asia Pacific. Patel started the role late last year, replacing Kwang.

Sjoerd Leenart, JP Morgan, CEO, Asia Pacific, wrote in the memo: “I would like to extend our gratitude for the tremendous impact Harshika has brought to the role over her three year tenure. Harshika’s leadership, energy and passion have been truly outstanding.”

Hong Kong-based Leenart added: “She has helped strengthen our internal culture, foster a real sense of community between Chater House and Quayside and solidify JP Morgan’s presence in this critical location. Harshika has been a true champion of our corporate responsibility initiatives and a fervent supporter of our local business resource groups.”

Leenart continued: “I’m confident that Kam Shing will build upon the incredible work done by Harshika. She brings a wealth of experience to the role and is a trusted advisor who has demonstrated unwavering commitment to excellence since joining the firm in 1998. Kam Shing will continue as chair for North Asia.”
