JPMorgan has again signalled its bullish intentions on the Mainland by recruiting another high profile name. Sherry Liu comes into the fold as managing director and vice chairman for JPMorgan Chase China.
Liu's newly created position on the investment banking side follows the recent appointment of Frank Gong as managing director, head of research and chief economist for China. Liu will report to Charles Li, chairman and chief executive officer of JPMorgan Chase China.
Working closely with her new boss, Liu assumes responsibility for expanding the bank's existing investment banking client coverage and developing strategic business initiatives.
Liu joins JPMorgan's China-based operations from Lehman Brothers in Asia, where for three years, she was a managing director and head of investment banking for China. Before Lehman, Liu was a managing director and head of investment banking for China at CLSA.
According to JPMorgan, Liu's appointment builds on an existing Chinese platform, which includes a dealing room in Shanghai, plus credit rates, forex and hedging businesses.
With Liu's appointment, JPMorgan's China operations now boast over 70 staff members.
