Macquarie Capital, the corporate advisory and equity underwriting business of Macquarie Group, announced yesterday that it has appointed Dan Chen as chief officer of principal investments and head of telecommunications, media, entertainment and technology (TMET) for China.
Chen joins as a managing director and will lead Macquarie’s principal investment initiatives in China, where he will be based.
“Macquarie Capital continues to build its business in Asia,’’ said Kalpana Desai, head of Asia for Macquarie Capital. “China is an important market for us as we continue to execute our growth strategy in the region. The appointment of Dan is a further step in strengthening our business in the region.”
In July, Macquarie promoted Danny Wong to head of equity capital markets for Greater China, creating the role as part of its effort to build its China franchise. Macquarie recently acted as joint lead manager and joint bookrunner on the Rmb1.5 billion issue of offshore bonds by Beijing Enterprises Water Group, one of the leading integrated water system solution providers in China, which is listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange.
Chen was previously a managing director in the corporate and investment banking division of Deutsche Bank and was chief representative for their Beijing Representative Office. He has more than 15 years of investment banking experience in China in both the state-owned enterprises and private sectors.
