Every year we write about who had the best bank box at the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens. And every year, that article -- about a rugby tournament -- ends up as one of our most read stories.
This year, we decided to add to the pomp and circumstance by giving the winner, Morgan Stanley, a certificate acknowledging its achievement.
In short, Morgan Stanley won for the clever decision to turn its box into a locker room, which allowed it to provide lockers to clients so they could stow their belongings while partying on during the drinkfest, thus making them return to the box again and again. For more on other banks' boxes, and the decision to select Morgan Stanley, check out the story: Who had the best box at the Hong Kong Sevens 2010? on our website.
Since we announced the award, we have learnt that Morgan Stanley's head of events for Asia-Pacific, Jeanne Zee, coordinated the effort. She ensured that there were two photographers in the locker room to take Polaroid photos of guests and of Morgan Stanley staff and their families and children. This tied in well with the bank's decision to retain Australia's David Campese, the All Blacks' Sean Fitzpatrick, and Welsh stars Gareth Edwards and Jonathan Davies to hobnob with clients. The photographers on hand were able to snap pictures of clients with the legendary rugby players.
Guests could either keep their photos or put them on the "shower wall" with appropriate fun comments. Kids also had fun drawing on the wall. Comments included: "I love the 7s because of this box", "MS Box Rocks", and "The Best Box in the World". Okay, we didn't go that far, but we certainly thought it was the best box at the Sevens this past weekend.
