Prior to Kurz's appointment, Chan held his current position as regional head of technology research in tandem with the head of Taiwan research role.
Kurz reports directly to Adrian Faure, the Hong Kong-based director of research for Asia-Pacific CIR and is the fifth new Asian country head of research named by Citi in recent months, following appointments in Hong Kong, Thailand, South Korea and Malaysia.
In his new role at CIR Taiwan, Kurz will primarily assume responsibility for writing country strategy research, including a number of new platform products, drawing on his 18 years of experience in this Asian market.
Prior to joining Citi, Kurz was at BNP Paribas where he was head of corporate finance in Taiwan. Before starting this role in 2004, he established and ran Insight Pacific, his own investment advisory and corporate finance boutique in Taiwan. From 2000 to 2004, Kurz was chief executive officer of this firm and earned the nickname of Mr Taiwan due to his immense familiarity with the market.
In addition to these roles, Kurz also brings experience from Merrill Lynch and Baring Securities. In 1997, he was head of research for Taiwan at Merrill. He started his Taiwan tenure at Baring Securities in 1988 in a similar position.
Kurz began his financial careers as a bond and equity trader in Boston and New York and comes as Citi continues to bulk up its research franchise in the region.
