Michael Khoo is retiring as managing director at Alliance Capital Management in Singapore after running the shop for the past 10 years. His main responsibility has been institutional business development, including origination and client servicing for Southeast Asia, as well as overseeing the 43-person office. He ran institutional sales both for Alliance's traditional growth fund management skills as well as the value style product provided by Alliance unit Sanford C. Bernstein & Co.
Khoo will stay on until the end of the year in order to assist his replacement, James Thyne, who will move to Singapore in October. Then he will retire from the industry. Prior to joining Alliance, Khoo had worked at the international banking division of Merrill Lynch in Singapore.
Thyne is currently the CEO of Alliance's New Zealand operation in Wellington. He will report to David Steyn, global head of institutional sales in London.
Thyne's counterpart in Hong Kong is June Wong, who joined recently after serving at HSBC Asset Management, while the regional retail business is headed by Ajay Kaul in Singapore. The firm manages $473 billion globally.
