Nomura names new co-head of Asian ECM

Former Macquarie banker Philippe Espinasse replaces Stephen Metcalfe who left in early June.
Philippe Espinasse has joined Nomura as co-head of Asian equity capital markets to replace Stephen Metcalfe who left the firm to pursue other opportunities last month.

EspinasseÆs most recent appointment was as head of Asian ECM at Macquarie Securities in Hong Kong, although he resigned from that job in October 2006.

As part of NomuraÆs Asian investment banking division, Espinasse will work side-by-side with Tokihiko Kusano, who is also co-head of Asian ECM, to originate and carry out transactions with the aim of expanding the firmÆs share of the ECM market in the region. He will be based in Hong Kong and report to Minoru Shinohara, the bankÆs head of Asian investment banking.

ô(Espinasse) has an excellent track record and is ideally qualified to drive the growth of our equity capital markets business in Asia,ö says Shinohara, in a written statement.

At Macquarie, Espinasse specialised in the origination and execution of equity and equity-linked transactions in Asia. He has also spent more than 11 years with UBS, in various debt and equity capital markets positions in Europe, and as head of equity corporate finance for Asia.

NomuraÆs investment banking team in Asia provides services within origination, structuring, syndication, marketing and placement of Asian equities for corporations, institutions and governments. It also offers a range of corporate finance services including execution and transaction advisory, equity fund raising and corporate broking.
