A large audience drawn principally from Asia and Europe logged into FinanceAsia and Bloomberg’s first ever webcast on offshore renminbi, or CNH, and corporate hedging in Asia. The webcast was aimed at demystifying offshore renminbi hedging for corporate treasurers otherwise unsure of the advantages and risks of hedging in the Chinese currency, also covering what to expect from the fast-internationalising currency.
Moderated by FinanceAsia’s corporate treasury editor, Jonathan Barlow, the hour-long session included a presentation from Alison Fletcher, economics and FX market specialist at Bloomberg, who explained how treasurers should best make informed choices regarding onshore and offshore renminbi. Robert Minikin, senior FX strategist at Standard Chartered, gave an economist’s view of the broader implications of the internationalisation of the renminbi. The panel was rounded off by Adrian Teng, group treasurer at Jardine Matheson, whose insight during the Q&A session concerning the practical implications of hedging offshore renminbi from the treasurer’s perspective, proved invaluable for listeners.
