Almost 300 delegates crowded into the Renaissance Harbourview hotel in Hong Kong on January 12 to attend our third annual RMB Rising event.
The opening keynote address was given by Dr Meiji Fong of China State Council's market economy research institute who put RMB internationalisation in a global context.
That was followed by discussions on opportunities in cross-border RMB trade settlement by Ann Lin Khoo of JP Morgan Treasury Services, and foreign exchange strategies in CNH by Paul Mackel of HSBC. AsianInvestor's own Greater China reporter Leanne Wang moderated the last session of the morning on the prospects for the offshore RMB market.
Armstrong Chen of the CBRC kicked off the afternoon by looking at changing guidelines on QFII and QDII, while Eric Chow of HSBC moderated a panel on securities and fund services roles in CNH.
An examination of RMB equities and IPOs was moderated by FinanceAsia's equities editor Anette Jonsson, while Veronique Lafon-Vinais of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology closed the event with a panel discussion on the timetable for achieving full RMB convertability.
