More than 130 issuers and capital markets luminaries turned up for FinanceAsia's third annual Australia Achievement Awards dinner held on the foreshore of Sydney Harbour on Tuesday.
The night has become a signature event on the capital markets calendar with people travelling interstate and across the Tasman to attend. Special guests at TuesdayÆs event included John Stanhope, the CFO of Telstra, and Mark Heazlett from the Department of Finance, who were there to collect the award for Best Secondary Offering for the A$15.5 billion T3 transaction.
Frank Micallef, the treasurer of Orica, fulfilled his 2006 promise of returning to pick up another award, this time for Best Equity-Linked Deal. And Paul McWilliams of AGL was there to collect the Best M&A award.
There were, of course, plenty of banking personalities in the room too including Terry Campbell from Goldman Sachs JBWere, Richard Hunt from UBS, Campbell Lobb from Credit Suisse, Lisa Sonnabend from Macquarie Bank, and Cathryn Carver from ANZ.
The trivia quiz was won after a three-way tie-breaker by Team UBS who picked up a case of wine. And the top raffle prize, a private wine tasting event for 50 people provided by Watershed Premium Wines and valued at A$3,300, went to Savage & Partners.
