Law firm Allen & Overy has announced the appointment of Thomas Brown as a managing partner and head of its Tokyo office. Brown will move to Japan from A&O in Bangkok, where he headed the banking and projects team.
Brown (pictured right) has had extensive experience throughout Asia with A&O, having previously acted as an associate in Tokyo between 1991 and 1993, a partner in the Hong Kong office from 1996, and then in Bangkok from 1999.
His main area of expertise has been in structuring project lending to a number of business sectors, notably telecom, power, cable and property.
Chris Roberts, regional managing partner for A&O was confident that Brown would be a success in his new role. "The practice in Tokyo is doing well and this appointment will ensure we continue to take a leading role in the international legal market at a time when the economic climate is slightly uncertain," Roberts says. "Thomas' experience in Asia is very broad and he will be able to contribute to all aspects of our practice."
