UBS draws on diplomacy with appointment of Allen

The former Australian consul-general in New York joins UBS in Sydney as senior adviser for Asia Pacific.
UBS Australia has hired Kenneth Allen as a senior adviser to the bank on policy and strategic issues in Australia, the US and China.

Between 2001 and 2006 Allen was the Australian consul-general in New York where he was responsible for representing the countryÆs interest in North-eastern United States.

But he was a banker before he was a diplomat, starting his career with the World Bank in Washington DC and then joining Merrill Lynch where he was in charge of establishing the thundering herdÆs investment banking presence in Australia.

AllenÆs most recent banking position was senior director of investment banking at Macquarie Bank.

Allen will report to Brad Orgill, chairman and chief executive officer of UBS in Australasia. ôKenÆs experience, relationships, insights and knowledge all have significant potential to enhance our ability to meet the needs of our clients,ö says Orgill.

His appointment is effective immediately.
