Who won the 'Predict the FinanceAsia 100' competition?

After two straight victories, the winner this year is not Alastair Macdonald. However, it is one of his colleagues from Macquarie, ensuring a hat-trick for the Australian firm.
Each year we award a case of champagne to the person who can predict the level of the FinanceAsia 100 on December 15. We are emailed predictions throughout the month of January, and for the previous two years, the champagne has been won by Alastair Macdonald - who is a banking sector analyst at Macquarie Securities in Bangkok.

This year's winner also hails from Macquarie, making it a remarkable hat-trick for the firm. Even more remarkable is the fact that the winner predicted the EXACT level of the FA100. Macquarie's Nick Thompson predicted the index would end at 1,636 and on Friday evening that is exactly where it closed.

A case of Veuve Clicquot champagne will be arriving at his office later today.

The FinanceAsia 100 is our Asian blue chip equity index, and was launched in 2002. The index has risen by 19% this year.
