Yahoo! Asia's new CFO and head of strategy is an all-rounder by anyone's standards. Richard Tsiang has taken up the role and will bring a wealth of M&A, corporate advisory and investment experience with him.
Well known in Hong Kong for his strident and prescient views, the Australian-educated Tsiang became interested in the new economy last year while he was a partner at Allard Partners, an investment company.
Now with Yahoo! arguably the world's best known internet company he will have a chance to take the monolithic portal into new areas in the notoriously fragmented non-Japan Asian market.
His past experiences have trained him well for his new role. That's because aside from being a successful investor with a notable expertise in China he began his career by cutting his teeth in the cut and thrust of real world mergers and acquisitions at the then dynamic UK group BTR. He later gave multinational companies advice on their direct investments in China With the onset of M&A in the Asian internet space these should prove useful experiences.
